Weld County roads on overdrive from oil and gas activity

October 6th, 2011

You need look no further than Weld County roads for proof of the area’s recent surge in oil and gas activity. Weld County commissioners recently approved the Haul Route Program, which calls for $8 million in maintenance and improvements for Weld County roads that are experiencing higher than normal use. It is likely that oil and gas companies will participate in the cost of repairs.

Oil and gas activity has served as a welcome economic boost to the region. Commercial industrial buildings have been quickly bought up by oil and gas companies over the past year. In the past year industrial vacancy rates have dipped below 10%. There is no doubt that the industry has also contributed to job growth in the area. In 2010, Weld County led the state of Colorado in the percentage of job growth. In addition, the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis released 2009-10 personal income data and the Greeley metropolitan statistical area (MSA) came in at #66 out of 366 MSA’s for a rise in personal income.
